Voxman Music Building facilities

Voxman Music Building celebrates musical performance at every turn, embracing a collaborative and exploratory student-driven model of education that treats every space as performance space.

Featuring dynamic learning spaces and breathtaking stages for the School of Music's 350-plus yearly public performances and presentations, Voxman Music Building is optimized to support creative and scholarly work, with acoustically ideal performance and practice spaces and the nearly 90,000 music scores of the Rita Benton Music Library close at hand. This transformative space is a fitting home for the School of Music—a place rich in tradition, situated at the very heart of the vibrant cultural life that defines the University of Iowa and Iowa City.

Built in 2016, the 190,000 square-foot space includes a 700-seat concert hall, 200-seat recital hall, organ performance hall, opera and chamber music rehearsal spaces, faculty studios, classrooms, practice rooms, electronic music and recording studios, and a student commons, where you can study, compose music, or meet over coffee with a professor. The building features the latest instructional and recording technology. All of this in a dynamic space that will not only become an architectural and cultural hallmark for the University, but also for the City of Iowa City.
