Recital Scheduling Deadlines

 (In order of priority)

  1. Major ensembles—Begins Fall preceding next academic year, completed by December 1.
  2. Smaller ensembles (jazz, Center for New Music, percussion, and recruitment events)—Begins December 1, completed February 1 of preceding academic year.
  3. Individual faculty recitals and faculty events—Begins February 1, completed by April 1 of preceding academic year. After April 1, the Concert Hall will be open to outside scheduling.
  4. Student degree recitals—Begin first day of the current semester, completed by 8th week of the semester in which the recital is scheduled. Spring recitals may be scheduled in the preceding fall. The recital must be scheduled and approved three weeks before the selected date for the recital. Rescheduling due to illness or injury may be done at the time of the recital cancellation.
  5. Studio recitals and honors recitals—
    • Faculty may schedule studio recitals beginning in the second week of classes. Scheduling must be completed by the 9th week of the semester in which the recital is scheduled.
    • The faculty member should use the Student Recital Request Form and schedule during the student recital times.
    •  A studio recital may also be scheduled during the normal seminar time simply by emailing the Music Scheduling office, music-scheduler@uiowa.edu.
    • Unless scheduled during normal seminar time, no studio recitals may be scheduled in the recital hall during the last three weeks of classes which is reserved for degree recitals during that period. There will be no house management or programs provided for studio recitals.
    • Students may schedule an honors recital beginning in the second week of classes. Scheduling must be completed by the 9th week of the semester in which the recital is scheduled. Please use the Student Recital Request form. Honors Recitals may not be scheduled during the last three weeks of classes which is reserved for degree recitals during that period.
  6. Student optional recitals—Begin the third week of the current semester, completed by the tenth week of the semester. The recital must be scheduled and approved three weeks before the selected date for the recital. Optional recitals are any non-degree recitals and must be approved by the primary advisor. Optional recitals may NOT be scheduled in the Recital Hall the last three weeks of the semester which is reserved for degree recitals during that period.
  7. Master Classes—
  • Master Classes may be scheduled by faculty at any point in the semester through the Scheduling Office by emailing music-scheduler@uiowa.edu.
  • Master Classes cannot be scheduled weekdays from 8-12 p.m. or in the Recital Hall or Concert Hall during prime recital times (evening 5:30 or 7:30 recitals).|
  • Unless scheduled during normal seminar time, no Master Classes may be scheduled in the recital hall during the last three weeks of classes which is reserved for degree recitals during that period. There will be no house management, programs or recital attendance provided for Master Classes.
