Undergraduate Viola Auditions

Christine Rutledge works with a student.

General School of Music auditions will be held on February 15th, 2019. The string area will hold an additional audition day on January 25th. To register for the January date, please contact Christine Rutledge. 

  1. All major and minor scales in 3 octaves. (Be prepared to play in both slow and moderately fast tempos.)
  2. One etude from the standard viola etude repertoire. Can include those by Mazas, Kreutzer, Dont, Campagnoli, Bruni, Uhl, Lillian Fuchs.
  3. 1 or 2 movements from Bach's Cello Suites or the Sonatas & Partitas for solo violin.
  4. 1 or 2 movements from a concerto and/or solo work (scored with piano or solo viola) that clearly represent(s) the current level of your playing.

All questions regarding repertoire and audition requirements can be directed to Christine Rutledge for approval.

Note: It is important that the applicant select repertoire that clearly represents his/her ability level. Please contact Professor Christine Rutledge for specific details if needed.
