The Chi-fa trio, is an emerging ensemble that formed at the University of Iowa String Quartet Residency Program under the guidance of Elizabeth Oakes. Their mission is to bring the trio literature to wide audiences through inspired performances. Comprised of violinist and conductor HoYin Kwok and sisters Varinia and Zoraida Oyola Rebaza they have performed for eminent artists such as Joel Krosnick (Juilliard Quartet), Ying, Lark and JACK quartets and Mark Steinberg (Brentano Quartet). In addition, Chi-fa members have attended prestigious music festivals such as Eastern Music festival, Prisma (Canada) and Great Mountains(Korea) among others. Future appearances include a collage performance (UI) and the UISQRP summer tour to Des Moines.

Midwest TrioMidwest Trio

Members of the Midwest Trio have performed individually in recital halls around the globe, ranking high in both national and international competitions, and taking coveted spots in prestigious music festivals. Joshua Palazzolo has been making music from the age of five. As the violinist of the family’s Palazzolo Trio, Joshua performed at universities and concert halls across the United States, including the quarter-finals of the Fischoff International Chamber Music Competition. Joshua is pursuing a Masters degree at the University of Iowa where he is teaching assistant to Dr. Scott Conklin. Tonio Meade has been playing the cello since the age of 12. As a soloist, he has played in great halls and given recitals at the Brevard Music Festival, the River Center for the Performing Arts, Opperman Music Hall, and Kobacker Hall at Bowling Green State University. He is currently studying at the University of Iowa, focusing on a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Cello Performance. Pianist Heqing Huang has appeared as a soloist with Symphony of the Vines, Lynn Philharmonic and Ars Flores Symphony Orchestra. His competition achievements include: First prize in the Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota piano competition with Virginia B. Toulmin Award (2014), Winner of University of Iowa concerto competition(2016), Ars flores young artist concerto competition(2011), First prize in “HAILUN” National Piano Competition (2007 Sichuan Subdivision)

Established in August 2016, the members of Con Fantasia have accumulated recognition from the University of Iowa and the Iowa City area. Bringing expertise from around the world, Con Fantasia has immersed itself into the University of Iowa’s String Quartet Residency Program, receiving master classes and coachings from members of the LARK Quartet and JACK Quartet. con Fantasia has performed throughout the University of Iowa campus, including the College of Nursing, College of Liberal Arts, Health and Sciences as well as the School of Music. Within the School of Music, the quartet performed in the festivities to welcome back the state-of-the-art Voxman music building. They were also selected to perform on the prestigious School of Music Collage Concert in March. In addition to performing, Con Fantasia was also invited to present a guest lecture in conjunction with the University of Iowa’s Passport Project, which focuses on culturally engaging first year students as they explore the arts, humanities, sciences and technology.Con Fantasia was invited to perform as well as discuss opportunities at the School of Music and the importance of communication, collaboration, and determination--all qualities eminently demonstrated by the members of Con Fantasia.
