Mary Adamek, music therapyThe University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) has recognized Mary Adamek, clinical professor in the School of Music, and the Iowa China Project, a collective initiative of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, with 2013 Outstanding Outreach and Public Engagement Awards. The Outreach and Public Engagement Award was created by the CLAS Executive Committee in 2011 to honor faculty activities that bring the University to broader communities in significant and sustained ways. 

Mary Cohen, music educationIn addition, Mary Cohen, assistant professor of music education, was named a 2013-15 Dean’s Scholar along with Margaret Beck, assistant professor of anthropology. The Dean’s Scholar award honors faculty who have demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarly or creative work, and carries discretionary funds to support the awardee’s teaching and research initiatives. 

“It gives me great pleasure to recognize these outstanding faculty members,” Djalali said. “They represent the scholarly achievement that continually renews our curriculum and offers exciting academic opportunities to our students. I am also grateful to the Alumni Association for its generous endowment, which provides needed resources for faculty development and other worthy projects.”
