Lewis Nash Masterclass on "Roles and Responsibilities of Drums in a Jazz Ensemble"

Internationally-renowned jazz drummer Lewis Nash will give a formal presentation on the nuances of how drummers effectively interact with various jazz groups. Topics falling under the umbrella of “roles and responsibilities” will include: concepts of melody interpretation, the effect of various grooves or "feels" on melody interpretation, interaction between rhythm section/soloist, interaction between rhythm section players, pacing of solos, pacing over the course of a song, pacing over the course of a set or concert, variety and contrast in dynamics and learning to phrase together. This presentation is free and open to the public.
