Doctoral tuba student earns accolades

Doctoral tuba student Kate WohlmanDoctoral student Kate Wohlman won first place in the "Artist Tuba" competition at the Great Plains Regional Tuba Euphonium Conference held May 3-5 at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. The prize included $550 in gift certificates and cash and the required repertoire included Dancing King by Jesse Ayers, Capriccio for Solo Tuba by Krzysztof Penderecki and Serenade No. 12 for Solo Tuba by Vincent Persichetti.

In addition to her success in the competition, Kate presented a lecture based on her recently completed Doctoral thesis entitled Ear-tudes: An Ear Training Method for the Collegiate Tubist and performed with the All-Star Tuba Euphonium Ensemble. Kate was the recipient of the prestigious Iowa Performance Fellowship and served as the graduate teaching assistant for the UI Tuba Euphonium studio. Kate has completed her DMA degree and will be graduating in May 2013.
