Black Pop Music (BPM) Ensemble: Party on the Ped Mall
The Black Pop Music Ensemble is excited to present, “Party on the Ped Mall!” Join us for our very first outdoor community performance as we present beloved music by some of the world’s most iconic artists including Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, Rhianna, Parliament, Chaka Khan and more. Come ready to sing, dance and clap your hands!
A partnership between the School of Music and the African American Studies department in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Black Popular Music Ensemble (BPM) provides a means of detailed study and performance of popular music styles emanating from African American culture. With a focus on Black music from 1950 onwards, this ensemble will include styles commonly overlooked by the academy, including R&B, Gospel, Soul, Hip Hop, Neo Soul, and Funk. BPM participation is open to all UI student singers, emcees and instrumentalists, regardless of area of major study.
This event is free and open to the public. We look forward to seeing you there!Presented in partnership with Iowa City Summer of the Arts: https://summerofthearts.org/
