Earn your MA in Conducting
As a small department within a large School of Music at the University of Iowa, we offer graduate students the best of both worlds: excellent access to research libraries, stimulating performance opportunities, and ample teaching opportunities, all with a maximum of individualized attention from faculty.
The University of Iowa offers three tracks for earning a master of arts degree in conducting:
- Choral Conducting
- Orchestral Conducting
- Wind Conducting
Basic degree requirements are similar across the tracks, except for the specific area requirement and a foreign language for choral conducting. Learn more about the audition process and degree requirements for each specialty by browsing each track.

Current Course List
The MyUI Schedule displays registered courses for a particular session and is available to enrolled students. The list view includes course instructors, time and location, and features to drop courses or change sections.
Add a minor
Any student admitted to a graduate degree program in the School of Music may add a theory pedagogy minor by completing the required courses.
