University Symphony Orchestra Presents Voices Unbound

Kenny Lee, Conductor

Jamie Clark, Cello

Greg Hand, Organ

Join us for the second UISO concert of the fall semester! The program opens with Dvořák’s Carnival Overture, a vibrant and celebratory work full of bubbling energy. At the heart of the program is the haunting world premiere of The World According to…, a new cello concerto by Nicky Sohn, featuring Jamie Clark as soloist. This powerful work carries a deeply personal message. Sohn writes:

"This concerto was born out of the collision of worlds — between the values I was raised with and the expectations imposed on me when I married across cultures. I grew up believing that dignity and respect belonged to every person, regardless of gender or race. But I was confronted with traditions and behaviors that denied those values — experiences that left me feeling unsafe and silenced, especially in the political climate of the country I now call my second home."

The evening concludes with the monumental Symphony No. 3, “Organ” by Camille Saint-Saëns, showcasing Greg Hand on the organ. An evening not to be missed!
