Orchestrating Connections: Or What’s the Point of Musicology?

Orchestrating Connections: Or What’s the Point of Musicology? promotional image

A discussion with musicologist Douglas Shadle (Vanderbilt University) about how musicological work can inform or shape connections between scholars, performers, and audiences. Come enjoy a slice of what people have been calling “public musicology” but in the context of orchestras, or classical ensemble music in general (e.g., chamber music, etc.). This talk is sponsored by the University of Iowa Libraries in collaboration with the School of Music. It is presented in connection with the Main Library Gallery’s spring 2026 exhibition, Orchestrating Community: The Public Service of Iowa Conductor James Dixon.
