University of Iowa School of Music faculty member David Meyer recently attended the Pan European Voice Conference (PEVoC-16) in Istanbul, Turkey. PEVoC is Europe's premiere biennial voice conference, bringing together voice scientists, singing voice pedagogues, speech language pathologists, and laryngologists.

At PEVoC-16, Meyer co-authored four podium presentations. His interdisciplinary research explores singing voice pedagogy, voice acoustics and biomechanics, and the medical imaging of the vocal tract. In addition to the University of Iowa School of Music, multiple UI departments were represented, including Biomedical Engineering, Communication Sciences and Disorders, and Radiology.

A significant ongoing collaboration involves Meyer and his team working with the Shout at Cancer Choir in London. This project is developing novel methods for "singing" specifically designed for individuals who have lost their vocal mechanism following life-saving surgery.

A classically trained opera singer, Meyer was a featured soloist on the gala concert at the CVK Park Bosphorus Hotel, performing a set of songs by Richard Strauss.

More information about the conference can be found on the PEVoC conference website.
