No is prescreening required. 

• The Prelude and one other movement from a Bach Cello Suite; or two contrasting movements from a Bach Violin Sonata or Partita
• The first movement of a concerto or sonata (scored for viola/piano or solo viola) that clearly represents the current level of your playing. See the "Suggested Repertoire" tab below.
• Memorization is not required

Audition materials should be thoroughly prepared and approximately 10 minutes in length.

No accompaniment is required.

• One major and one minor scale of your choice (three octaves preferred)

• Students may choose any concerto or sonata that represents their playing well. Some excellent choices include, but are not limited to: the Stamitz, Hoffmeister, Walton, Bartók, Forsyth, Bowen, Rózsa, and Higdon concertos, Hindemith's "Der Schwanendreher," Bruch's Romanze Op. 85, R. Schumann's "Märchenbilder," the Brahms Sonatas Op. 120, Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata, and the viola sonatas by Clarke, Hindemith, Reger, Vieuxtemps, Shostakovich, Fuchs, Higdon, and Larsen. Please contact Professor Wise with any repertoire questions.

Auditions will be judged on current technical and expressive abilities, the potential for growth, and the desire to learn.

You are considered for scholarship at the time of audition.

You will be notified via formal letter about your audition results and music scholarship results in early March.

The number of students accepted each year is determined by the needs of the studio, which are ever-changing due to the size of the graduating class and other factors.
