Undergraduate flute auditions

Prescreening

No prescreening required. 

Preparation requirements

  • Two contrasting solo pieces
  • 2-3 standard orchestral excerpts or one etude

Technical requirements

No technical requirements. 

Time requirement

The audition will be in a lesson format with a full duration of 20 minutes.

Accompaniment

No accompaniment is required.

Repertoire

No required repertoire, please reach out to Professor Esposito for repertoire suggestions

Judging criteria

Students will be evaluated on skill, musical curiosity level and the potential for growth needed to be successful in their selected degree program.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the audition and number of applicants, we will not be able to provide individual comments. All decisions made will be final.

  1. When am I considered for scholarship?
    • You are considered for scholarship at the time of audition
  2. When will I hear about my results?
    • You will be notified via formal letter about your audition results and music scholarship results in early March
  3. How many students will you accept into your studio?
    • The number of students accepted each year is determined by the needs of the studio, which are ever-changing (size of graduating class, etc.)

Graduate flute auditions

Prescreening

No prescreening required.

Preparation requirements

Master of Music in Flute Performance:

  • Mozart Concerto in G Major OR Concerto in D Major First Movement (Exposition only)
  • A French work of your choice
  • A 20th or 21st Century work of your choice
  • 3-4 Standard Orchestral Excerpts

Doctor of Musical Arts in Flute Performance:

  • Mozart Concerto in G Major OR Concerto in D Major First Movement (Exposition only)
  • Two contrasting movements from any Sonata of J.S Bach
  • A French work of your choice
  • A 20th or 21st Century work of your choice
  • 3-4 Standard Orchestral Excerpts

Time requirement

The audition will be in a lesson format with a full duration of 30 minutes.

Accompaniment

No accompaniment is required.

Technical requirements

No technical requirements. 

Repertoire

Please see preparation requirements. Students are encouraged to select repertoire from a range of musical eras and styles, including those from historically underrepresented individuals or groups, that best demonstrates their abilities and interests.
