BM, BA, and BM in Music Education
Applicants must prepare three memorized works from different historical periods of music, one of them can be non-traditional. Some examples of non-traditional are candidate’s own composition or improvisation; Jazz transcription; popular; musical theater, etc.
Music Therapy, Music Minor, and Non-Music Major applicants wishing to study with a piano professor
Applicants must prepare two memorized works from different historical periods of music. An additional third piece may be included and can present a non-traditional repertoire. Some examples of non-traditional are candidate’s own composition or improvisation; Jazz transcription; popular; musical theater, etc.

The University of Iowa School of Music offers an online audition option. Online auditions will be open to anyone seeking admission. Domestic students from the contiguous 48 states, who wish to be considered for music scholarships, must audition in person. Exceptions to this rule will be made on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the studio professor/area head for whom you will be auditioning if you have a hardship which prevents you from auditioning in person.
