Undergraduate Auditions

You are here

An audition must occur before admission to the School of Music is possible. Admission notification generally occurs during the first week of March for that upcoming Fall entry. Specific area audition requirements can be found at the links on the left side column. The University of Iowa School of Music invites high school seniors and their guests to participate in an Audition Day held on the following dates:

2016-17 Audition Days

Friday, December 2, 2016 (Please note: no percussion auditions available on this date.)
Friday, January 27, 2017 (Please note: no bassoon, piano or violin auditions available on this date.)
Friday, February 10, 2017

Participants in these events will audition for admission to the School of Music and thousands of dollars in scholarships will be awarded.

On the Friday Audition Days the planned activities for the day include a morning open house for students, parents and guests with an opportunity to visit with School administrators, faculty, staff and students, facility tours and opportunities to learn more about our music education, and music therapy programs.

To accommodate the large number of voice auditionees, in addition to the dates above, there will be two Saturday dates held but there are no School organized events for these dates:
Saturday, January 28, 2017
Saturday, February 11, 2017

Students will be considered for scholarships when they audition. School of Music scholarships are awarded strictly on the basis of merit and on the recommendation of the faculty. The awards range from the amount of applied music fees up to full in-state tuition and come in the form of a credit against the student's account at the University Business Office. These scholarships are renewable for a maximum of four years if academic and performance criteria are met each year. Registration as a music major in the recommended area of specialty is required. For more information, see Financial Aid & Scholarships.
